Cooking to Combat Cancer is Back for Year #4!

istigare una lotta/put up a fight

Who hasn’t been touched by cancer in some way – directly or indirectly? I have mentioned several times before that I lost my grandmother to pancreatic cancer in November 1993. My world was shattered, for this horrible disease razed our family foundation. Then, I was confronted with a diagnosis of Thyroid Cancer on April 29, 2001 – at 9:53AM. I debated with myself about whether to bring Cooking to Combat Cancer back for its 4th year, since blog events don’t seem as prevalent throughout the blogosphere as in previous years. But, since my personal relationship with the disease is still pretty raw (despite my clearing the “cancer-free” 5-year marker), I have decided to host the event once again. Won’t you help me in putting together another fantastic round up?

Here is what you need to know:

Recipes need to include something that will help the body fight cancer. Basically? Healthy recipes . If you're not sure - Mayo Clinic Recipes is a great resource. It doesn’t matter what course you choose – I will (try my best to) categorize them. You must post your cancer combating culinary creation, with a link back to this posting, no later than Friday, May 14th 11:59 EST. (Feel free to pick up the above logo for your post.) After you post, please send an email to me - melecotte (at) gmail (dot) com, with Cooking to Combat Cancer in the subject time. Then, in the body of your email, I would like

  • your name (as you go by on your blog/twitter)
  • your location
  • the name of your blog (if applicable)
  • the name of your recipe
  • a permalink to your post (if applicable)
  • a picture (approx 250 pixels)

***You do not need a blog to participate! Feel free to send me the above information, and even the recipe (if you want). It’s all about getting the word out. ***

Need help finding healthy recipes . Mayo Clinic Recipes is a great place to look, as well as the places online Kalyn suggested a couple of years back - including this list of Cancer Fighting Foods and Spices, and this list of 11 Cancer Fighting Foods. I also find this online Thyroid Cookbook a great resource, as there were several occasions I had to follow a low-iodine diet.

Or, check out past Round Ups! Year 3, Year 2, Year 1

The roundup will be posted around May 16th. Happy & healthy cooking!
