Blog Event: The Deep Freeze Summer Challenge

Sharon and I were at lunch several weeks back chatting about .... well, what else? Food! The conversation turned to the freezing food and I mentioned how jam packed my freezer has become in recent months. I laughed as I explained I could probably create a complete meal from frozen food alone - soup to nuts....literally! Her response was that would be a great challenge!

Challenge.....hmmmm.....our shoulders went back, backs straightened, and eyebrows raised. Blog Event!

So, here it is...the Deep Freeze Summer Challenge and all the frosty details:
  • All submissions must include ingredients from your freezer. You may use seasonings &/or oils, milk/cream, and/or eggs to assist you if needed.

    - A link to your post
    - You can send a picture or I can get it off your post – I will leave it up to you.
My trip is right around the corner, and I would like to have as little as possible in the fridge/freezer when I leave. Therefore, I will start off with a "no fuss, no muss" Grilled Steak, Peas, and Pearl Onions and Pound Cake with Whipped Cream and Cherries.

After defrosting a steak, I seasoned the meat with salt and pepper and grilled it until medium (flipping once). While the steak cooked, I sauteed frozen peas and frozen pearl onions. By the time the peas and onions were done, the steak was as well.

For dessert, I sliced a piece of Sara Lee's Pound Cake (which was for a recipe I haven't made yet), whipped up 1 cup of cream (without sugar), and defrosted pitted Bing cherries. Put it all together...delicious!

Happy Defrosting! And....Have a Happy & Safe Memorial Day Weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh this is something I do on a regular basis given the fact I'm too lazy to head for the market. Great, I'll peer into the fridge for dinner.

Great Shawnda! I always love to see your creativity.

Ramya, this can get tricky! Sometimes the combos in the freezer can be a brain tease. Good luck!

Thanks Kristen!

Mooncrazy - I hear ya! I really need to do it on a regular basis, since I can't fit anything else in the freezer. Can't wait to see your entry!

Great MM - I look forward to it!

Hi Chris

This looks like a fun event! Unfortunately I wont be home much during the run up, just back from holiday and away from home working untill mid-week. Maybe next time!

I'll be reading the round-up for sure

:)

Thanks Dianne! Not a problem about being away. I am out and about as well and know how it is...trying to get everything out of my fridge! :)
